A lacaat Otel – The origins of the name “Alaçatı” are unclear. Most historians believe it comes from “Alatsata”, meaning saline in Greek. Others point to “Alaca At (horse)” port mentioned in the 16th century or talk of an Alacaat tribe. These names inspired Mustafa Eken when he opened his hotel in 2016. The two-storey structure is located on the “surf road” and built in traditional style. Everything is still brand new. The 12 rooms are nicely decorated. The pool is 50 m2. The garden is adequate, in line with Alaçatı standards. A shuttle ferries car-less guests to the beach. Breakfast brings Turkey to your table: honey from Bitlis, kaşar cheese from Kars, olive oil from Bodrum. “I want people to feel at home here,” says the owner. “They should feel they’re going to their summer house, not spending a weekend at a hotel.”
