T he atmosphere in Antakya makes people feel good, as does its food. Even if slogans like “a place where civilisations meet” or “cultural mosaic” are exaggerated, they contain some truth. In the central market, you come across different languages, different dress styles and different faiths. Waxwing, located on one of the city’s busiest avenues, is Antakya’s first “design” hotel. All the main sights are within walking distance: the Habib-i Neccar mosque, St. Peter’s Church, the famous Mosaic museum and the market. The decor is very urban: beige and brown tones, glass staircases rising through the air, subtle light plays. It represents Antakya’s modern face. Its technological infrastructure, such as fast wi-fi, meets the need of contemporary travellers and business people. The rooms are not huge, but they are comfortable. The personnel are smiling and helpful.
